My swimming day of fun gone hilariously wrong

It wasn't BalloonFest ’86, but it still went hilariously wrong. My sister and I had gone over to a friends house for a summer swim towards the beginning of first grade. We had the grand idea of  surfing on pool floats and we then had the fabulous idea to take it one step farther and tried to jump onto one of the pool floats. When it was my turn to jump I slipped backwards  (who knew pool floats weren't very sturdy?) I fell  into the ledge of the pool.. As I sunk down into the water all of the water around me began to turn red. I had cracked my head open, I remember my sister trying to swim over to me with her life jacket as fast as she could. But I eventually got out after most of their pool was filled with my blood.

The best part was the friend's mom was afraid of blood. So obviously she had a difficult time handling this situation.
As I'm standing on their pool deck bleeding she is  throwing up and trying not to faint, after about 10 minutes of her freaking out she figured I should go to the hospital.. They rushed me to the hospital with a Hello Kitty beach towel wrapped around my head. They went to get me  balloons from the gift shop since they felt terrible.

But then the doctor came in to give me the staples as I thought to myself "oh that silly doctor should  know I wasn't feelin like getting those staples", I ran out of that room BUT my dad grabbed my arm and pulled me back to the room even though I was screaming, that I didn't want them. They held me down and I had the honor of receiving 7 staples in my head and a new hair cut... Yes,the pool ledge cut my hair clean off.. So I rocked my long locks in the front with my bob cut in the  back for a while... My day of swimming fun turned hilariously wrong.

  1. I'm glad your hair is back to normal now! It was a great vivid picture of you sinking into the water with blood all around you.

  2. My mom split her head open while she did a flip off of the diving board so your story reminds me of that hilarious story from my mom. How long did it take to grow your hair back?

  3. I'm so sorry! What a painful experience. My little brother jumped in the pool and sliced his chin right open around the same age as you! Do you still have a scar? I enjoyed your writting.

  4. Although I have never cut my head on a swimming pool deck before I did have troubles with stitches when I was younger. I remember because I got but by a dog on the tear duct next to my eye and they had to stick it up, let's just say 8 year old seeing a needle coming towards his eye was not the best

  5. Wow! I'm so glad you're okay! I feel bad for that doctor though. Not only did he have to deal with a bad injury, he had to handle a young, bloody, screaming, sassy Sara. Did your dad freak out or was he calm?
